In-Store Games for Kids
We’re no strangers to kids and their need for fun at Dog-Eared Books. We love to see youth of all ages brightening up our space, and we want to make it easier for your favorite youngin’s to fully enjoy our store. Here are a few ways to do just that!
Explore our kids’ cabin
Our kids’ nook looks like a little dog house at the back of our store. It’s a bit quieter inside than in the rest of the store, and there’s even a bench for little bottoms. The walls are covered in illustrated portraits of dogs, and kids can practice identifying dog breeds or counting the portraits there. It’s a great place for overstimulated little ones to take a break.
Try a counting challenge: How many stuffed animals are there in the store?
Hint: Many. And don’t forget to look up! If your child likes this kind of game, they can also count the people in our mural, shelf-talkers, or (if they love an unbeatable challenge) even the books themselves!
Play “I Spy”
From our loft, you can see the entire store below. People watch or play a fun game of I Spy with your little ones. Alternatively, it’s fun to try “spying” a book of a certain category. Challenge your kids to find a red picture book or a book with a dog on it in the children’s section.
Attend our story hour
Every Wednesday at 10 AM, we have a story time for kids in the children’s section. A staff member reads 1-2 books to the audience, and our shop dog Lovie is often present. We’ve got floor cushions for the kiddos and seats for the parents, so you’ll be comfortable.
Give Lovie a treat
If Lovie is in store (mostly weekdays), she’ll appreciate a treat. If you ask, our staff can provide a little something from the treat jar to make Lovie and your child happier. She also likes to play fetch with some of her toys.
Try our Store Scavenger Hunt
We originally made this for our store’s birthday, but it’s a good way to learn more about our store’s history any time of the year. It’s not too long, and you’ll get a taste for the personal touches that make our store special.
We hope these activities add some variety to your summer days and provide a great bonding opportunity with the young ones in your life!
