Our Auto-Buy Authors
Many of us at Dog-Eared Books have what one might call “auto-buy authors.” These authors pen books that hit just the right spot for us as individuals. Their work excites us, and we trust we’ll love a book just because it’s from them. We’ll even buy a book of theirs before we know the premise!
It’s only natural, then, that we’d want to share these authors with you in hopes you’ll love them too. In this series, our booksellers will gush about why they love the authors they do. This post spotlights auto-buy authors from Katie, who loves romance, and Jess, who can’t pick just one genre.
We hope you enjoy!
From Katie:
I have quite a few must-buy authors, and I won't let you tell me that's not okay. I will buy all the books and not feel an ounce of remorse. :)
My first auto-buy author is Denise Williams. Not only is she a friend of the store and an absolutely lovely human being; but I love her storylines and her character development. Her characters are relatable and become your friends as their stories unfold and you find yourself rooting for them to find their happily-ever-afters. I love all of her books, but I would suggest starting with Do You Take This Man as it is an enemies-to-lovers rom-com, and who doesn't love a really well-written enemies -to-lovers.
Meghan Quinn is another author that I will pick up her books as soon as they reach our shelves. Her storylines are always diverse and range from Greek holidays to hockey romances - and her banter!! Oh my goodness! No one writes banter like Meghan Quinn. I always find myself giggling creepily while my nose is buried in one of her books. Meghan Quinn is such a prolific writer that it can be hard to know where to start. The Reunion is a great one to pick up first as it follows three different potential couples and somehow manages to hit ALL the tropes.
Tessa Bailey is my last auto-buy as of today. Not every one of her books is a grand slam for me. There are a couple of them that kind of miss the mark. But, boy oh boy, when she gets it right you can expect to be thoroughly entertained. I absolutely love how protective her characters are of each other, and how they speak to each other (if you know you know).

From Jess:
I have a soft spot for Travis Baldree because Legends and Lattes is one of the first fantasy books I loved (thank you, former bookseller Danika!). His characters are adorable and badass. His world building is charming, and I want to live there with a dog named Potroast.
Elizabeth Acevedo is so talented and stunning with her prose and lyrical writing ability. Her YA novel With the Fire on High is a breath of fresh air in its story line and narrative. This book made me fall in love with her and her writing. She is also the first author I experienced verse writing with, and it’s particularly spectacular on audio.
Historical fiction is my first baby! My coworkers joke about “Jess books” – specifically when there’s a woman with her back turned and an airplane. I will own my love of historical fiction until the day I die. So it should be no surprise that I love Kristin Hannah. She’s one of the contemporary queens of this genre, writing about war time and historical events in between. Her books are infused with real events, and I love learning while being fully immersed in a story.
Jess has shared more of her favorite reads in Interview with a Bookseller: Jessica.
We’ll be back with more auto-buy authors from our booksellers in the future. In the meantime, please share your favorite authors with us in the comments!
