Your Guide to a Charming Bookstore Date

…hosted right here at Dog-Eared Books

It’s been cold for far too long, and if the sun isn’t going to warm my limbs, I need something to warm my heart. So, here goes…I’ve planned a cute date for readers to have at our store. This series of activities will work for friends, lovers, and…perhaps even enemies? Whether you want to get to know someone better or just stare lovingly into their eyes, you can save yourself the work of planning an outing and simply steal this agenda for your next meet up. Here’s my guide for a charming date at Dog-Eared Books:

  1. Wear your matching Dog-Eared Books merch

Some people think couples that wear matching outfits are cheesy. WELL. Cheese is my favorite food! If you don’t already have some matching gear to rep your favorite bookstore, we’ve got hats, bags, sweatshirts, and t-shirts waiting to help you get a new cutes-y couple photo or a seriously cool squad pic.

2. Share a beverage and a baked good

From bubbly to juice boxes, our beverage fridge has you covered. There’s also drip coffee at the counter for something bitter to balance the flavor of our sweet treats – we love our new Lovie cookies and our scones in particular.

3. Pick out stickers or a magnet for your fridge

Could matching stickers be the new friendship bracelets? We have an ever-changing collection of stickers and magnets that can add some color to your life as well as magnets to make people chuckle before they open your fridge. It’s little touches like these that make a house a home and a laptop a…personal computer…?

4. Complete our scavenger hunt together

We made this scavenger hunt to highlight special little details in the store for our second birthday, and it’ll take you all around our first floor. If you can find all the items on the list, it’ll be like you took a history tour of the store and learned some behind-the-scenes facts about its making.

5. Peruse the shelves

It’s not a bookstore trip without the books! Our booksellers are happy to make recommendations. It’s also fun to take the Blockbuster approach and let the right book call to you from the shelf. If none of them are screaming your name, maybe one of our puzzles will. You can take it home to assemble together later.

6. Read together in our loft

In the back and up the stairs, there are couches, windows, and a working fireplace for maximum coziness. Stretch out or cuddle up – if you’d like, you can also take a drink or snack up with you to enjoy while you read. The atmosphere in the loft is more intimate, so it’s also good for pleasant conversations and assembling puzzles if you’re not in the reading mood.

7. Plan your next date on the way out by picking an event off our community calendar

It’s not just our staff who post on these boards – community members come in all the time to advertise what’s going on around town. You’ll find posts from organizations, clubs, and businesses around town about events, meetups, and service opportunities that might be right for you.

Emily

Emily (she/her) loves a good story in any genre...so much that she'll sacrifice sleep, food, and fresh air just to turn the page. When she finally manages to put a book down, though, she likes to conduct baking experiments, attempt art, wrestle with video games, and play D&D with her friends.
